The legalization movement continues to make headway across the United States. As cannabis is available in more states than ever since its initial prohibition, society tackles the stigma surrounding the once elicit drug.

Marijuana is much more than some plant that rebels smoke for a little fun. There is a lot of research that suggests that marijuana can have some medicinal purposes.

What is Medical Marijuana used for?

When someone uses marijuana solely for medicinal purposes – it is referred to as medical marijuana. Once a controversial topic, many people are becoming more open to the idea of medical marijuana. Stories about how medical marijuana has completely changed someone’s life have been circulating the internet for a while now.

While it is crucial to separate fact from fiction when searching through the internet, there has been a lot of research exploring the benefits of medical marijuana. Most notably, they are incredibly efficient at reducing seizures in conditions that were untreatable or challenging to treat through traditional medicine.

Medical cannabis may help treat many other conditions ranging from psychological to physical. Taking cannabis drops can help alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety. Because it can help get your appetite to return and relax you, it is also popular to use in treating the adverse effects of chemotherapy. Cannabis and hemp products also have the potential to act as a pain management solution.

Can Medical Marijuana act as a substitute for opioids?

You may have heard some conversations over whether or not cannabis could potentially replace opioids. Opioids are a commonly prescribed drug in the United States to treat a whole multitude of symptoms, often pain.

There is a reason people are looking to get rid of opioids. The United States is currently in the middle of an opioid crisis where countless citizens find themselves addicted to the substance. People want to get rid of the normalcy of opioids because they are not working.

Opioids can be a dangerous substance that is easy to abuse. The problem is that opioids are also highly effective. Luckily, they are not the only effective pain management treatment.

There are already several different clinical trials that support the use of medical marijuana for both acute and chronic pain conditions. The best part is – they don’t seem to come with a high risk of dependency or overdose.

What does this federal promotion imply?

One of the biggest obstacles of further research in medical marijuana was federal restriction. For years, any cannabis use was a crime. As more states began to witness the benefits that legalization offers, more states began to approach cannabis use with more leniency.

Now, a majority of states has some legislation allowing medical marijuana under medical supervision. Beyond merely accepting marijuana use, the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) formally expressed their interest in exploring alternative treatments. Cannabis is one such potential alternative treatment they have an interest in.

At Holistic Hope, we dedicate our efforts to offering safe solutions to the opioid crisis. By investing our resources into scientific research, we bring our users the best evidence-based treatments. Contact us today for more information.
